These anchors ensure that a wall can support whatever it is that you intend to hang on it. Hold the brackets against the wall aligning the screw holes with the anchors. After i determined the exact height where i wanted the shelf and shelf brackets i penciled on the wall where the mounting holes in the brackets would be on the wall. You see of course there are studs holding up the wall they re just not in the exact place where i needed them for the bracket placement.
