The hip roof also referred to as a hipped roof is asymmetrical rectangular construction with two hips meeting at either end with four sloping uniform sides meeting at a single peak. Because most gabled roofs consist of flat sections you can cover them with virtually any roofing material. Shed roofs are easy to build because all rafters are identical. It may consist of a flat roof on top but the main design element is the multi pitch sloped in what is essentially a hip roof on top of another hip frame. When the hip is equal on all four sides it is sometimes called a pavilion roof or a pyramid roof. A simple roof design shaped like an inverted v.
